Concept
The Burn Scar Mapping service package is dedicated to provide, seasonally, after the summer and winter fire seasons, information products regarding burnt scar mapping at high-resolution (60 m accuracy) for Support of Fire Fighting Plans at Regional/Provincial scale, of Environment and Natural Resources Planning at Regional/Provincial Scale (yearly or less frequently) and of Land Conservation Planning at Regional/Provincial Scale.
Expected benefits
This service allows a global estimate of damage and lost natural resources. These information are very helpful for forestry services to elaborate the plantation campaign, but also for fire fighting services. Indeed, such areas have to be monitor with attention during some years following the fire, since the spread of the young species leads to more rapid fire propagation. It is useful in the following crisis phases:
- During post-crisis phase: it provides reliable information on the extent of fires and support the damage assessment.
- In prevention phase: it helps to update area at risks for fires and prepare the next fires campaigns, regarding the refinement of rescue plans.
