Concept

This service consists in the provision of near real time fire information, based on middle resolution satellite data, to keep forests under continuous surveillance.

The overall service objective is to provide reliable information about fire situation to managers at different geographical scales (mainly national and regional). This allows user to get a general overview of the whole fire scenario under responsibility and its situation, but also an overview of the surrounded areas, which is relevant to improve resources and efficiency, to define attack priorities in case of fire simultaneity and to assign extinction resources.

The service is currently based on the use of TERRA&AQUA/MODIS and MSG/SEVIRI..

• better awareness of fire situation in neighbouring regions or countries : anticipation of needs for exchange of means, anticipation of possible fire propagation to own region
